Day One: The Boatslip

Sunday was my first full day in Ptown - and it was perfect. We grabbed our towels and headed to The Boatslip which is a hotel on the water with a big deck and pool. Everyone hangs out at the hotel pools during the day - the beach is a significant hike (bike ride to ocean and then a 30 minutes through the dunes to get to the shore) so the pools are where it's at.

So we hung out here and frolicked in the pool from 1-3pm - ran back to the house to come right back here for the 4-7pm Tea Dance. They clear all the deck chairs, erect a bar, turn the tented cafe into a dance floor and voila... an intensely crowded and WAY fun tea dance.

We met a bunch of nice people. I ran into people that I've met on previous cruises, and I even met some people from San Francisco that recognized me but we'd never met. So funny to come 3,000 miles to meet some who works out at my gym. But I guess that's what makes these events so fun.

After the tea dance, we ate at The Lobster Pot - but I opted for fish n chips. Ate with a group of people we didn't know - but by the end of dinner, we were all friends. So fun! Love that.

Spent the eve at a bar (The Crown & Anchor) that has a big front courtyard where everyone hangs out. I hung out with these nice guys from New Jersey and Connecticut. We watched 80s videos and sang along. The video for Xanadu came on and three queens started jumping up and down, hands to their mouths, screaming. It was hilarious. So funny. Then the video for 'It's a Miracle" by Culture Club came on. And then I jumped up and down, screaming. More to come.

This is Fernando (L) and Larry (R), my housemates. Friends of Gabe and now my sisters. Gabe's been having to work on and off, so I've been spending most of my time with them. They've been great to get to know and hang out with.

Oh - one more thing. Every night, after the bars close at 1am (I know...sucky) EVERYBODY convenes at this one pizza-by-the-slice place, called Spiritus. And I mean everybody. It's like the largest sidewalk sale ever. i'd say probably 750 people are all hanging out in front of Spiritus until around 3am. Pretty fun.

Anyway - last night this guy was in front of us in line. Yes...this is a man...and that is a hair-don't, and those hips do lie. ;-)

Two things I'd like to know...

1. How erect was the bar?

2. How many Singapore Slings did you have to drink before believing that the beach--which is visible in this photo--to be "30 minutes of walking through the dunes to get to the shore" ?

Looks like Larry is enjoying hugging you more than you think!

omg - that is funny... both of you. Steph, to answer your question, that is the bay - not the ocean. The ocean is actually on the other side of the isthmus. But, yes, you are right that there sand and a shoreline on the bayside.

Peter - OMG - that is hilarious. I just looked at that photo again. I agree ;-)
