Great Weekend

The weather was amazing...the company rocked...and had a bunch of fun moments spread across the weekend. Can't ask for a better weekend than that.
Wilma and Andrew were in town...AGAIN... and stayed with me - plus I still was watching Archie, so it was nice to have a full house again. Got to also hang out and get to know Charlie - an old friend of Matt Duke, Vinny Daloia, and Wilma that used to live in SF and moved back last week. We just met last weekend so it was cool to meet a new friendly face in SF.

Wilma and I checked out the Frida Kahlo exhibit at the MOMA - and although it was irritatingly overcrowded the exhibit was great and I really enjoyed getting to learn about her work and life.

I finished up the weekend with a great time at beer bust. I was there with Wilma and Eric (aka BOOM!) seen here in this pic - with special appearances by Ed and the aforementioned Charlie.

Now, it's back to a quiet, lonely house again. Archie goes back to his parents today and Wilma/Andrew drive back to LA today... It always ends in a supernova for me... from full to empty in one fell swoop. I do not like.

Barefoot in the park

On Saturday, a group of friends gathered to celebrate two friends' birthdays, Gabe and Michael (the two in the balloon hats, custom made on the premises by Scott Barney).

We kicked off our shoes, spread out blankets, sprayed on sunscreen, ate some snacks, and just sat there and bullshitted for a couple of hours in the bright sun and cool breeze of Dolores Park. Had some great laughs and a perfect time. Funny thing is, I realized that's only the third time I've ever hung out in Dolores Park. Made me realize that I need to do that way more often.

I grabbed some pics with my iPhone so the quality isn't great... but you get the idea!

Ssssuper, thanks for asking...

OK... I'm REEEEEALLY not trying to be mean - but I saw this guy's picture on Facebook and the first thing that came to mind was..."OH MY GOD...this is the REAL life Big Gay Al."

Am I right, or am I right?

Dilation Supersonic

Was heading out for a last-minute birthday party for my friend Luc and thought I'd get a pic of me in a dress shirt...which is a rare sighting. And, as usual, it looks like I'm about to shoot fire out of my skull!

Throughout my life, I've always had unusually dilated pupils... making me an ongoing victim to the horrible red-eye plague. Daytime pictures were flattering, but rarely did I survive an evening flash pic without looking demonic.

Then camera manufacturers - understanding my plight - came out with "red-eye reduction" and I thought my problems were solved. The technology gods had answered my prayers. Finally, I would never again look like the spawn of Satan.

Yeah...no such luck.

Uncle Dave Duty...hehe...I said Duty

This is me and Archie at my office. The coolest part about dog sitting for me is that my work is dog-friendly... so I get to bring them to work with me. Which is great since leaving them at home isn't a great option cuz of how long they'd be left alone (probably 10-11 hours).

He's been sleeping right next to me every night and he's been a complete joy to have around. I should rename him Shadow because I can't make a move without him following along. I'll have Archie until June 23rd so I'm sure I'll have more pics to share.

If you're wondering what kind of dog he is - he's a Border Terrier. Not a mutt, as most assume.
Every time I dog sit, it makes me both miss having a dog - and NOT miss having a dog. The companionship is awesome. But you don't realize the freedom you become acustomed to when you don't have a dog - and I like that freedom for now. So until life settles - I'll stick to Uncle Duty... I can get my doggie-fix and then hand them back.

So I was off by 4 months...but I called it!

Back on December 12th, I reviewed a new restaurant in the Castro called "Castro Cafe"... this is what I wrote...

December 12, 2007:
"Cafe Castro... don't bother. Boring menu (entree's a la Lyon's), horrible ambiance (too bright, nobody there, bad music), and average flavor. I give it 2 months. Hello...and goodbye."

Well, I just walked by it tonight and there is a handwritten sign stuck to the window that says "Thanks for your patronage. We are temporarily closed and will be coming back soon with a new concept, new menu, and under new management."

LOL... OK... so I was 4 moths off...but I still called it.

Wilma and Archie

Wilma came up for the weekend for a little 1:1 time - and it was AWESOME! Friday night we went to a house party and then a night out in the Castro. Saturday I picked up Archie - the little Border Terrier who I'll be dog-sitting for 2 weeks and then on Sat night Wilma and I threw a dinner party at my place and had a nice group of friends over for pasta feed, tons of wine and games. Then on Sunday we had an amazing time at beer bust and then had an impromptu Rock Band party at 10pm on Sunday night. The guys in the yellow t-shirts are Mike and Manuel - new friends of Diego's that we met at beer bust and then had them come join the Rock Band party.

It was really great for Wilma to make the last-minute trip up! Always a great time to hang out, do our nails, and giggle like school girls. Thanks Wilma! Luv ya tons!

Hear are some pics from the weekend. Enjoy

Rex and The City

Quick movie review from Rex... Sex and The City was nothing short of AWESOME. Absolutely the best TV-Show-to-Movie I've ever seen. Great tempo - taking you quickly from sorrow to laughter - over and over again.

It's not going to win any Oscars - but it sure has my vote for best movie I've seen since the Oscars.

It gets 9.5 lashes out of 10!

Lash Velvet sighting

A few months ago, I brought my Rock Band game to work for us all to have a little break one day...and it started this fun movement at the office that we call PCo ROCKS! PCo stands for Pearson & Co. (where I work) and after we played Rock Band, they made us all PCo ROCKS t-shirts and gave us these skull and crossbone caps and wristbands (and a packet of Pop Rocks!).

I just came across the cap and wrist band and decided to get into my Rock Band character...Lash Velvet. What a ham! I'm going to start wearing this cap and band when I play Rock Band!

Awesome weekend in Santa Cruz

It was pride weekend in Santa Cruz. I ended up going down Friday night and staying the entire weekend with Andy, Diego, Fred, Donovan, Scott Shouse, and Scott Stauffer. It was a great, unplanned weekend. It was REALLY nice to spend some time getting to know Scott Shouse and Scott Stauffer. What a great, dry sense of humor each of them have. Sometimes, I think getting to know people can only be done in the context of spending a solid amount of time together to really get the rhythm of someone's personality. Anyway - here are some pics from the weekend - yes, I got a T-Rex tattoo to go with my nickname, Rex. There's also a video clip of us riding the CYCLONE. So fun! Thanks to Andy and Diego for hosting a great weekend.

This is a first!

It was 10:30pm and I was the ONLY person on the 33 Stanyan between 18th/Mission and 18th/Sanchez. I've NEVER been on a MUNI bus all by myself. It was strangely exciting. I wanted to run up and down the aisle. But I didn't. I guess I'm just a dreamer.
